My friend Tom Massari www.focalpointmeditation.com is a channel of the spirit of Seth. I received this message in his weekly newsletter that perfectly describes my month of September:
"When the wind blows, do not block it. When the rain falls, do not shelter yourself from it. Should tears flow, do not dry your eyes. When life takes place, do not stop it. When everything fails to work properly, enjoy it.
When things go your way, do not fear it. When someone loves you, love in return. If no one loves you, love everyone anyway. Thank you. I love you.”
It was Saturday 3:00 PM and I was at the beach at Rocky Point Mexico. I was ready to relax after finishing my business retreat and decided to take my pool float and float in the middle of the ocean.
I back paddled beyond the waves into the calmness of the vast ocean and thought to myself, this is what life is all about. With a smile on my face I was relaxing into a nap.
3 1/2 minutes later, I was back on the shore. I guess the waves pulled me back in. To solve the problem, I went back to my room to find a rope and anchor my float to a rock. Once I swam beyond the waves I realized that I would need my scuba goggles to see where the rocks were at.
I went back to my room and swam back beyond the waves. I dove several times and found the perfect rock which had a natural hook. I anchored my float and lay back feeling accomplished.
The first big wave broke my perfect loop and in no time, I was back on the beach. I asked myself "What would MacGyver do?" and came up with the idea to take a 5 gallon plastic bucket used to collect water under the A/C unit at the house and use it as a weight.
I went back to the house, and then back to the ocean with my 5 gallon bucket. I quickly learned that the bucket floats too. After filling it with rocks it still floated sideways.
Ok, now I was really determined to anchor myself more than ever. I went back to the house to get a longer rope, and back to the ocean to find the ultimate perfect anchor rock. This time I made sure I tied my rope all around to make the best anchor ever created.
I finally got to float in the middle of the ocean the way I wanted. Celebrating a little too soon, I noticed flocks of Pelicans approaching overhead. They soon began diving right next to me to feed on the thousands of fish that had gathered all around my float.
I have never been so close to a Pelican. They are really large and fierce in their suicide diving for fish. Being so close, I noticed that they close their eyes when they dive. Me and my float became the only subjects between the Pelicans and the fish.
I immediately engaged in diving in among the fish to release my perfect anchor that seemed to tighten even stronger from the pull of the waves.
This is the time in the story that I can tell you about the shark that came by but it did not. The thought of a shark coming to eat the fish did cross my mind though.
I ended up very frustrated lying on the beach as I reflected on my effort in the last 3 1/2 hours to relax.
I never knew how stubborn I am. I saw how I can get a particular idea of what fun should look like, and will pursue it even if it means completely ignoring life as is.
Maybe the ocean waves are all about the movement of life, and I am clearly resisting it? Maybe letting life take place could look like laying on the beach and enjoying the pelicans, the ocean, and the sun?
I was left with a simple question: Can I accept the gifts of life as they are offered to me?
I would like to leave you with the question: Are you letting life take place without trying to stop it?
