What do you do when you have plenty of obligations, a long to-do list and you just plain don't want to do anything?
The last month have been just that for me. Unfortunately there is no magic pill to make that go away, but I found a remedy called surrender. As I learned this remedy doesn't come with instructions of how to do it but it does involve movement.
I didn't want to work out, nor take my dog for a walk. I didn't want to work, not read, not play. I felt rebellious, being bad. Not wearing a seat belt, eating junky food, watching TV, anything I could think of that does not serve me. No dishes, no laundry, no landscaping my back yard, not taking the garbage out, nothing because I just don't want to.
I ended up sick with a flu and paralyzed from my lower back down to my legs. I was in bed for 2 weeks straight in pain and resisting life.
On Saturday morning, after two weeks straight in bed, I couldn't take it anymore. I felt I was ready to explode . Still barely walking, I put on my hiking shoes and went on to climb Camelback Mountain. I found a renewed energy to run to the top, and hug the biggest rock I could find. I felt so alive again. All my body pain was gone. I immediately called my personal trainer and said, "I am ready to train every day now."
This renewed energy of movement got me to be on the move. I spent the days since then riding my bicycle, hiking, swimming, running, gym, and yoga. I was back to be on top of the world as I was in Aug. I am now in the 7th heaven.
This is what I learned about my experience:
- The sooner you surrender to your body the quicker you get in alignment. It might be telling you to slow down and rest, or to speed up and get moving. What is your body telling you today?
- If you manage to get yourself paralyzed or in extreme pain, you must have very powerful mind conversations that your body have no other choice in getting your attention but through pain.
- Life and fun exist in movement. If you want to increase the fun level in your life, get moving. It doesn't matter how you choose to move as long as you do. Once you stop moving for a while, your mind will take over, and you will most likely create the feeling of being stuck.
The only question that remains is what is your body telling you today?
Love
